Sunday School will resume on Sept. 15, 2019 at 8:30 am

Sunday School is a place for youth of all ages to gather and spend time focused in God’s Word. Sunday School calls together children who have spent their week learning from the arts and sciences in public and private schools, and helps them to see how God is active in all parts of their lives. They get to hear faithful stories from Scripture alongside their friends and families as they are reminded of the love of God for them in Christ Jesus. They continue to build upon this foundation as they age, joining in other activities that show them how to love others as much as they’ve been loved. This makes Sunday School a foundational stone upon which the ministries of the church are born.
Children who are enrolled in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 are able to participate in Sunday School. Children younger than pre-kindergarten age can still participate, but must be accompanied by a parent. Because of the fluctuation in the number of children at each grade level, we work with learning groups rather than specific classes. For example, children in pre-kindergarten through grade 4 are placed together for some activities, and divided for others.  Children in grades 5 and 6 are placed together as a preparatory group for our Café 4:12 ministry. Youth in grades 7-12 (Café 4:12) meet together in our youth room and have their own Bible studies.
Not all the youth who come to Sunday School want to be there, no matter what you as a parent do, or how much we as a congregation do. However, we have found that youth experience the most encouragement when their parents are present and helping. Unlike other schools our children attend, Sunday School is hosted entirely by volunteer parents. We rely in this form of volunteering, and our parent volunteers are a most loving way to show forth Christ to our children.
We also focus on the following age groups as an introduction to and a participation in the sacramental life:
  • Any age – Holy Baptism
  • Grade 2 – First reception of Holy Communion and a Holy Bible
  • Grades 3 through 6 – Altar servers during worship services; assist in making bread for Holy Communion
  • Grades 7 through 12 – Participation in Café 4:12
  • Grades 7 and 8 – Preparation for Affirmation of Baptismal Vows (Café 4:12)
  • Grade 9 – Affirmation of Baptismal Vows (Confirmation)
  • Grades 9 through 12 – Participation in mission trips and other faith-building activities
